1-1 Support for Breastfeeding

Our Midwives, ISPHNS (health visitors, nursery nurses and public health nurses) and Children's Centre staff are here to help you get breastfeeding off to a good start. We can give you lots of information and support when you need it.

You can contact your midwife, ISPHNS Children’s Centre between your usual appointments if you need to speak to someone.

You could also go to your local baby clinic to see a health visitor face to face or attend one of our Breastfeeding support groups in your local Children’s Centre to meet other breastfeeding families and ask any questions you may have. Find out more about your local Breastfeeding group here (Link to ER CC & BF groups tab) Contact your ISPHN Health Visitor to book an appointment.

Specialist Breastfeeding Support

Some women and their babies may need more intensive or specialist breastfeeding support. The Midwifery and ISPHN services both provide free specialist breastfeeding support.

If you are continuing to experience problems with breastfeeding for example weight loss, slow weight gain, or low milk supply your midwife or health visitor may refer you, or you can ask to be referred, to the appropriate lactation consultant service

East Riding Children’s Centres and Breastfeeding Support Groups

Please find below a list of all East Riding of Yorkshire Children's Centres along with the day and time of the Breastfeeding support groups.

The groups are informal and a lovely way to meet other breastfeeding mums and gain confidence feeding out and about. Contact your local Children’s Centre if you would like support with breastfeeding or to find out more about the groups.

You can get support before you have your baby too. Partners and birthing partners are also welcome to attend.

What Parents Say About Our Breastfeeding Groups

‘The sessions are amazing, I cannot speak highly enough about how we have benefited. I have the confidence to feed in public, something I never thought I’d be able to do.
Also the support at the beginning is the reason I persevered with breastfeeding. Thank you!’

‘The support, confidence and friendliness of this group is unparalleled. It has allowed me to maintain my mental and physical health, and keep breastfeeding when things got tough’.

‘The biggest benefit of the group is ‘Socialising with other mums and babies, judgement free space to talk about challenges/celebrations’

My biggest benefit of coming to the group was ‘Meeting other mums and sharing thoughts and challenges on breastfeeding’

‘This is the best group! My favourite group of the week - the biggest benefit are learning from other mums about tips and challenges of breastfeeding. This was a difficult journey for me & the support has been invaluable to keep me going’

East Yorkshire Breastfeeding Friendly Scheme

In the East Riding of Yorkshire, we want all new parents to feel welcome to feed their babies in all of our council and health buildings and public spaces.

We have adopted the Breastfeeding Network's Breastfeeding Friendly scheme. We invite all East Riding Businesses and organisations to sign up to the scheme to help show that they welcome and support breastfeeding families.
