The Breastfeeding Network states: “Breastfeeding is good for mums, babies and the environment, but many women feel nervous about breastfeeding out and about, and this can mean they choose not to breastfeed or that they stop breastfeeding before they want to. Concerns about breastfeeding in public (such as embarrassment and negative public attitudes) have been identified as one of the main barriers to breastfeeding."
In the East Riding of Yorkshire, we want all new parents to feel welcome to feed their babies in all of our public spaces. We have adopted the Breastfeeding Network, Breastfeeding Friendly scheme. We invite all East Riding Businesses and organisations to sign up to the scheme to help show that they welcome and support breastfeeding families. You can show that you are part of the scheme by displaying a sticker and sharing information with staff and volunteers about why breastfeeding is important and how it is protected.
If you are an East Riding Business or organisation and would like to sign up to the scheme, click here for more information: https://www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/information-for-businesses-and-organisations/
In the East Riding Bridlington is our first Breastfeeding Friendly town, and currently 100 businesses have signed up to the Breast-Feeding Friendly scheme. See below to find out which businesses are taking part and look out for the window stickers and posters with the BfN logo in local premises
Iain Garner, Owner of Ruby SoHo Café, Bridlington, said: “I signed up to the scheme straight away as breastfeeding is promoting the health of future generations and I want the mums and families who visit my café to feel a 100% comfortable when Mum needs to breastfeed. I already have a changing area for families and so this scheme was perfect in expanding the family environment I already provide to my customers.”
